Compare the present textile with a Tang dynasty weft-patterned brocade in the Horyu-ji Temple Collection in Nara illustrated in Chinese and Central Asian Textiles，Selected Articles from Orientations 1983-1997，Hong Kong，1998 p. 60，fig. 8. Whilst the central scenes differ（the Nara textile features archers on winged horses），the border of reserved circles interrupted at the cardinal points by squares appear to be very closely related.
