This is a relief showing a frontal view of Prince Siddhartha’s Great Departure scene，leaving home in Kapilavastu to search for a way to end human suffering at the age of 29. Dressed in royal attire，he rides a horse in the middle of the night，while being surrounded by six other attendants in an attempt to prevent the prince from leaving. A similar example is illustrated in L’art Du Gandhara，France，p. 331，pl. 184 and another example in Gandharan Sculpture – A Catalogue of the Collection in the Museum of Art and Archaeology University of Missouri-Columbia，Missouri，1981，p. 7；two other examples depicting this scene are illustrated in The Art of Gandhara—Buddhist monks’ Art，on the North-West frontier of Pakistan，Paris，1986，pl. 63 & 287.
