Large Buddhist stupas made for religious purposes are exceptionally rare and only a small number have been published. Compare with a Tang dynasty example preserved in the Shanxi History Museum, illustrated in Zhongguo taoci quanji, Vol.6, Shanghai, 2000, pl.128； and another example illustrated by Seiichi Mizuno, Tousansai （Tang Sancai）, Heibonsha, Japan, 1977, Vol.35, p.125, fig.65. A third sancai-glazed example dated to the Tang dynasty was sold at Sotheby’s Paris, 14 June 2007, lot 116.
