The current lot is a rare example which draws its inspiration from its Qianlong blue and white porcelain prototypes, which can be found in museum collections from around the world. The Qianlong examples in turn, were inspired by their Ming dynasty predecessors, which derived originally from early Islamic metal prototypes； see J.A.Pope, ‘An Early Ming Porcelain in Muslim Style’, in R. Ettinghausen, ed., Aus der Welt der Islamischen Kunst： Festschrift für Ernst Kühnel, Berlin, 1959, pp.357-375. It is very possible, that the current lot is made in direct homage by simulating the metallic material used in early Islamic
metal prototypes.
