Champagne Diamond
Brown diamonds were set into rings by the Romans in the second century. During the 1980s, the Argyle mine, located in Australia and famed for its pink diamonds, excavated deposits of brown diamonds in various shades and intensities. In the wake of the discovery, brown diamonds became highly desirable globally.
The hues of brown diamonds range from very light to very dark. They also carry secondary colours, marked by traces of green, yellow, orange and red. Light brown diamonds are dubbed as “champagne diamonds, while dark-coloured ones are known as “cognac diamonds”. Among all, champagne diamonds of a warm gold hue with a reddish appearance are most sought-after. The most celebrated brown diamond is the 545.67-carat Golden Jubilee Diamond, offered as a gift to King BhumibolAdulyadej of Thailand in honour of his 50th coronation anniversary. It is the largest cut brown diamond in the world at present.
Lot 1830 is a 20.08 carat natural Fancy Brown-Yellow diamond. Radiating a beautiful golden brown hue reminiscent of a champagne colour, exudes the enchanting charm that fully deserves to be prized.
