Gübelin numbered 12027303, 12 March 2012, stating the paraiba tourmaline is 17.09 carats, natural, greenish-blue colour; along with a note, stating that ‘The so-called ”Paraiba tourmalines” ...became prized and coveted for their vivid coloration...The bright vivid blue and green “Paraiba colours” have not been seen in any other gemstone variety.’
The unusual blue-green Paraiba tourmaline was first discovered in the Brazilian state of Paraiba in 1989 by a dedicated miner named Heitor Barbosa. Caused by the presence of copper, paraiba tourmaline appears on a range of hues including greenish blue, bluish greenm green, blue and violet with tremendous lustre and remarkable vividness. To be offered in this sale is a 17.09 carat natural Paraiba Tourmaline and Diamond Ring, it is nicely proportioned and the bright vivid blue and green “Paraiba colours” have not been seen in any other gemstone variety.
