Conversations with Chicks: Anthropomorphic Imagery
Ceet Fouad's Graffiti Art

Graffiti artist Ceet Fouad was born in Algeria in 1971 and later moved to France, the country of his citizenship. Since 1988, he and his friends created a group called La Terrasse Possée and as such have painted graffiti around their neighborhood and participated in several important art exhibitions in Europe. In 2001, Fouad arrived in China. Because of the language barrier, while ordering food, he used to draw a chicken (of which he is rather fond) to indicate what he wanted to eat. Therefore, an artistic depiction of chicks has become a medium for his communication with an unfamiliar culture. Over time, this unique form of imagery has won the hearts of the public. Fashionable brands such as Prada, W Hotels, Opera Gallery Singapore (2011), and the Centre Pompidou (2016) have all invited him to cooperate or exhibit. As a leading figure of contemporary graffiti art, Fouad has participated in exhibitions in 11 countries.

Yellow Porn: Pop Art View on Social Issues
Yellow Porn (Lot 31) was created in 2017. The artist painted over 20 chicks of different colors crowded in a tight space — some of them having just hatched, with some having already grown into mature roosters. They have different postures, yet all of them have confused expressions, echoing modern social problems such as indifference and lack of communication between people, despite the fact that they all live together. This work shows the artist's sense of humor and an understanding of the times, all presented in Pop Art form.

Punk's Not Dead 2: Graffiti Culture's Enthusiasm toward Life
Completed in 2003, Punk's Not Dead 2 (Lot 30) features different shades of red as the base color. The two images of Mickey Mouse in the middle of the picture serve as the symbols of modern pop culture, and one of them has the words “PUNK'S NOT DEAD” printed on his clothes. On the right side of the work is a haphazardly drawn peace sign painted with a spray gun, embodying the improvisational qualities of graffiti. At the bottom of the picture are two chicks. Fouad placed Pop Art characters in a space brimming with visual tension, allowing the viewer to see his passion for street art.

Baby Chicanos: an Anthropomorphic Sculpture, a Dialogue with the Inside World
Created in 2017, Baby Chicanos (Lot 32) is one of Fouad's sculptures. This particular work is in the form of his iconic chick; its purple feathers, round body, and short limbs enhance the already surreal effect. The chick spreads its wings with courage, ready to embrace the unknown future.
