Using Hands to Show Emotion and Richness of Imagination
Moe Nakamura was born in Tokyo in 1988. She graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design in 2012, after which time, due to her outstanding performance, she remained as a lecturer. Nakamura's art practice focuses on tender, hand-carved figures with very visible chisel notches, soothing and full of childish charm. She held exhibitions in cities such as Tokyo, Taipei, and Seoul and is considered one of the leaders of the new generation of Japanese artists.
For her work Grow M, Nakamura sculpted a girl's head with slender eyes and a flat nose. Her hair is draped around her face and continues upwards, forming a whimsical pine tree. It seems these are her thoughts that continued to grow and develop into what they are today, a vivid reflection of the artist's rich imagination.
