A Chinese Sub-culture Icon, No2good's Mousy

No2good, also known as Chen Po-Liang, has a penchant for art since he was a child. He graduated from School of Design at Taiwan Normal University in 2000. Inspired by the American graffiti artist Keith Haring, No2good has created his artworks in humorous and lively art forms. In 2007, he co-founded the fashion brand STAYREAL with Shin, the lead singer of Mayday. In 2008, as a response to the fact that many Asian students miss out the joy of teenage life due to school pressure, No2good designed the classic Mousy, which has been exhibited in many cities including Venic, Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The Super Mousy(Lot 1) & Totally Cube - Separate Love(Lot 2) we are presenting this time has demonstrated the multi-faceted nature of the image.

A Superman's Dream, the Mousy's Manifesto
Since the debut of Mousy character in 2008, No2good has kept his innovative genes in recreating various kind of Mousy, making it a cultural symbol for young crowd. In Super Mousy piece completed in 2013, the mousy wears the classic blue outfit of the renowned Comics Superman, red ankle boots, hands clenched into fists, ready to protect people around him. Despite his gallant style, he wears black-rimmed glasses and a white bandage over his right ear. Perhaps as a child, the mousy was pressured by life and schoolwork, but he has grown into an open-minded young man to fight for peace in the universe. No2good wants to encourage people to break free from the habitual restraints by his positive image of Mousy.

Freeze in Time for Original Intention

The Totally Cube-Separate Love breaks the norm of quadrilateral in traditional paintings and composes in irregular polygons. Seen as pictures housed in transparent square boxes, this technique enhances viewers' experience of appreciation. In the left piece, a small mousy sits inside a yellow car, looking curiously outwards. Pink liquid flows out of the track of the car symbolizing happiness, which echoes the palpable heart of the young mousy. In the right piece, the brief and happy memory is minimized and put into the pink mousy-shaped car model. Perhaps the unique experience and fun of being a teenager is temporary and fleeting, but the feeling of being touched by one's original intentions is long lasting. This is the artist's intention behind this piece that he has been working on for seven years.
