Heart Healer
Encountering 'Nini'

After graduating in Oil Painting from the National Taiwan Normal University, Huang Benrei went to New York's School of Visual Arts for further study, which she completed in 1992. Since 2012, she has applied her long-standing life and painting experience to the creation of the Bunny Nini series, but in 2013, she began to transform the rabbit's image into something more three-dimensional.She had solo exhibitions at the Eslite Gallery in Taipei and the 456 Gallery in New York and has received a lot of attention.

The Sour Taste of Apples

In A Long-stretched Apology (Lot 81), Nini is the main character. Against the early spring-like bright green background, Nini's cheeks are flushed with red as she shyly hangs her head and stares straight at the ground indicating an apology presented in an enamoring pose. She reaches out a straight arm and offers the object of her entreaty a red apple in an act of goodwill, almost like whispering in someone's ear and melting their heart. The artist uses the apple and a grass-green hue to symbolize spring and beauty and draw viewers into the painting's fairytale-like context.

Believing in Dreams, Flying up in the Sky

In Dream Delivery (Lot 80), Nini is seating on the backside of carton box and looking far. Her ear is standing to keep herself alerted. The carton box is empty, with the green mountains flowing under the cloud——as Nini is already up on the sky. The soft clouds hold up the way of coming home, and the dream seems no longer farway to her. The Small delivery box drives Nini to her designated destination, and the distant sky appears to be another mysterious universe to her that intrigued her interests…Standing along with Nini's angle, the artist encourages the viewers to pursuit their dreams and embraces the possible challenges in life.

Pink Nini along the Jouney

This sale, we will also be presenting the most renowned artwork of the artist, sculpture Pink Nini (Lot 79). Created in 2015, Pink Nini quietly seats with her bended knees. She holds her hands on her knee, presenting an embracing gesture that looks like mother's cradle. She watches the audience silently, soothes the chaotic hearts. We could see the artists from far behind, the moment when she just started to create Nini… we as audience all healed by the encounter, carrying warm remembrances along the journey.
