Beautiful New World by Zhao Bo

Zhao Bo finished his postgraduate studies at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 2011 and went to the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo, Norway in the same year as a visiting scholar. Since 2007, he has been invited to hold exhibitions at the National Art Museum of China and the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo, and has organized solo exhibitions in Taipei, Beijing and Chongqing. Unlike his contemporaneous peers, he kept his creation free from political overtones and used fine strokes to introduce us into his artistic utopia, which is an unbelievably beautiful dreamland without the hubbub from the overly capitalist and connected world. Since 2014, Zhao has been working on the Beautiful New World series, which starts including human elements, adding a narrative into the abstract landscape. Beautiful New World No.5 on sale at this auction is an iconic work that perfectly integrates humanity and nature.

On the expansive canvas lies a fairyland-like forest. Lines of towering trees block out the outside world and are reflected in the windless lake to form a fluid color spectrum. There is a man rowing the paddles on the boat that is floating on the water. Forest carries the connotation of life. Only by facing the nature social-label-free can we realize the thriving and awe-inspiring vitality of nature. With petals and leaves romantically drifting down to keep him accompanied, the alone man is able to take a break in this idyllic land of peace from the hustle and bustle of city life.
