The Spiritual Protector
With the deepening of Nini's image, the artist has also extended from the canvas to sculpture creation. In 2018, Benrei created the Giant Pet, which is a 270cm tall sculpture and only has 2 editions. It maximizes the warmth and healing characteristics of Nini and creates a deeply touching sensory experience. The work was once displayed in the reading area of Shenzhen Eslite Space, and had been accompanying numerous readers and travelers. It became a hot check-in art spot and has attracted lots of attention at this auction.
Nini embodies herself as a gate keeper, sitting in the corner with her arms extended. She gently closes her eyes, ears drooping, her out-reaching hands present the gesture of care, hoping to guard and protect people within her arms. The audience seems to be able to automatically and genuinely open their hearts and pour out their feelings when they are in front of Nini. Her height and scale design also make the audience feel the warmth that will be embraced by Nini. Her “constant waiting” posture is exactly where Nini's seemingly soft but ultimate strength lies. It encourages us to be gentle and resolved, to encounter the moving moments of life in its beautiful manners.
