Swinging and Swaying, Feeling the Movement of the Universe
Liang Jen-Hung's Sculptures of Sentiments
“The entire universe is a machine that represents the infinite ways in which the universe works.”
――Liang Jen-Hung
Liang Jen-Hung was born in 1957. In 2002, he graduated with a Master's Degree from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at the Tainan University of the Arts. Liang is known for his innovative conceptualization of combining nature, mechanics, and human affection in his sculptures. His dynamic sculptures feature serene shapes and often embeds a message containing a sense of humor. In 2001, he won the Taipei Award and the Kaohsiung Award. His works have been collected by the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, National Cheng Kung University, Yongtian Art Group, the Marriott Hotel, and is highly sought after by collectors.
Lively and Sedentary, Full of Life and Adored by Many
According to his philosophy, Liang Jen-Hung believes that, “If eternity exists, then it must be in the form of ‘transformation'. Life interacts with time, transforming and ‘interacting' with the externality, generating spark.” Based on his belief, he attempts to incorporate “transformation”, “temperature”, and “interaction” into his work, exploring ways to embody these elements into the coolness of sculptures. He chooses stainless steel as medium, taking advantage of the material's reflective surface to manifest his ideas. His works are created with precise calculations of weight and a laminar flow to form a sculptural body that rotates with gravity. The movement of his works are driven by the kinetic energy of its viewer's movements. The connection between the sculpture and the viewer symbolizes the dialogues between his works and the beholder.Transevolution 16AS1025 is an exemplar of Liang Jen-Hung's interactive sculpture. The work is inspired by his dog Niu Niu and is adapted into a four-legged creature awaiting his playtime. The sculpture is deformed above the neck, resembling a sprouting bean and conveying the creature's vitality. When the work is touched, it would begin to oscillate, making the surrounding air flow and creating a playful serenity filling the viewers' hearts.
