This exceptional ivory brushpot belongs to a small group of similar exceptionally well-carved ivory brushpots carved with continuous scenes of figures in landscapes, including several examples in the Palace Museum in Beijing. Compare two examples from the Palace Museum Collection illustrated in Zhongguo meishu quanji, Gongyi meishu bian 11 zhu, mu, ya, jiao, qi, Beijing, 1987, nos. 95 and 96; and a third illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Bamboo, Wood, Ivory and Rhinoceros Horn Carvings, no. 44, Hong Kong, 2002, pp. 163-4, no. 142.
