Sacrificial blue-glazed ritual vessels such as the present bowl are relatively rare compared to their copper-red glazed counterparts. Thy were intended for use on the Imperial altar at the Temple of Heaven and are recorded as being ordered by the Qianlong Emperor for the Winter Solstice sacrifice to Heaven in 1748.
A pair of smaller Qianlong-marked bowls from the Zingone Collection,Rome,was sold at Christie's London,9 December 1991,lot 188 and again at Christie's Hong Kong,1 June 2011,lot 3536.
