The hallmark xie zhu zhu ren zao may be translated as ‘made by the Master of the Bamboo Studio’. The technique used on the present bowl and cover was inspired by predecessors produced during the Qianlong period such as the sgraffito-ground ‘dragon and phoenix’ bowl in the collection of the Palace Museum,Beijing,illustrated in Kangxi Yongzheng Qianlong,Qing Porcelain from the Palace Museum Collection,Hong Kong,1995,p. 332.
