Self-Portrait is a very important theme in my works. It appeared in all my big moment in life such as moving to Beijing, or while the Mask Series received great recognition, and when I was planning on my influential international exhibitions… I have paint self-portraits in every important stage of myself. It becomes a record to observe my own life experience. Sometimes I felt a lot of pressure, but artists would still like to live this way because they have their ways to solve the problems. Sometimes I felt sad, but when I got home I painted a small sketch, and suddenly I felt a lot better, it was like a reborn of myself. Thus, when I was painting a self-portrait, I let my self to memorize the past, to foresee the future, and to focus on this moment—and then I could understand myself better.
