IMPRESSIVE AND RARE 10.02 CARAT NATURAL UNHEATED BURMESE MOGOK PIGEON’S BLOOD RUBY AND DIAMOND RING


Centring on a cushion-shaped ruby weighing 10.02 carats, decorated with pear- and marquise-shaped diamonds, embellished with brilliant-cut diamonds extending to the shoulders, the diamonds totalling approximately 3.75 carats, mounted in platinum and 18 karat yellow gold. Ring size: 4

AGL numbered 1087460, 10 October 2017, stating the ruby is 10.02 carats, natural, Red colour, Burmese (Myanmar) origin, no indication of thermal treatment; along with a letter stating ’...only a very small portion of the gem population recovered ranks as exceptionally fine gemstones. Connoisseurs and gem aficionados throughout the world quickly acquire these rarities. AGL has completed a thorough analysis of a particularly fine 10.02 carats ruby...this ruby has been determined to originate from one of the most important and historic ruby sources: Burma (Myanmar). This stone possesses a richly saturated pure red colour that is further accentuated by vivid internal colour reflections. Traditionally, stones of this colour have been described as having a “Pigeon’s Blood” hue. The 10.02 carat gem is exceptional. It possesses all of the quintessential gemological characteristics that permit the acclaimed provenance of Burma and the Mogok valley to be conclusively determined. Gem rubies of such provenance, qualtiy and size are exceedingly rare.’
Gübelin numbered 17100113, 6 November 2017, stating the ruby is 10.02 carats, natural, Red colour, Burmese (Myanmar) origin, no indications of heating; along with an information sheet stating that ‘Within Burma (Myanmar), the most famed region is the Mogok Valley, or Mogok Stone Tract...Mogok-type rubies typically possess a red body colour and red UV-fluorescence. In addition, they may contain tiny amounts of light-scattering rutile silk and a swirl-like growth pattern. It is this combination of features which gives these rubies their characteristic appearance.’;
SSEF numbered 95044, 28 August 2017, stating the ruby is 10.02 carats, natural, Red of medium strong saturation colour, Burmese (Myanmar) origin, no indications of heating; along with an appendix stating the ruby possesses extraordinary characteristics and merits special mention and appreciation. The inclusions found by microscopic inspection are the hallmarks of rubies from the classical ruby mines in the Mogok valley in Burma (Myanmar), well known for its wealth in gems since historic times. The attractive and vivid colour of this ruby is due to a combination of well-balanced trace elements, which are characteristic for fine rubies from Mogok...A natural ruby from Burma of this size and quality can be considered rare and exceptional.’;
GRS numbered GRS2017-072105, 19 July 2017, stating the ruby is 10.02 carats, natural, Vivid Red colour (GRS type “Pigeon’s Blood”), Burmese (Mogok, Myanmar) origin, no indication of thermal treatment.
