See a comparable carved circular box featuring a lady playing with a boy in a garden dated to the first half of the 16th century, in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated by Lin Mun-lee, Carving the Subtle Radiance of Colours: Treasured Lacquerware in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1999, p.91, no.81. Compare also another related circular box carved with a lady bathing two children dated to the Ming dynasty in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, illustrated by J.C.Y. Watt and B. Ford, East Asian Lacquer. The Florence and Herbert Irving Collection, New York, 1991, p.107, no.42.
