Edward T. Chow (1910-1980) resided in Shanghai and lived briefly in New York before moving to Hong Kong in 1949 and finally settling down in Switzerland in 1967. He was one of the most revered dealers of his generation and is famed for his three fundamental tenets in building his collection: quality, rarity and beauty.
Compare with a similar wine cup (accession no.2015.500.1.74) dated to the Yuan dynasty, acquired initially from Spink & Son Ltd., London, in 1989 and bequeathed by Florence and Herbert Irving to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in 2015.
