Carefully worked and highly intricate, it is rare to find hanging basketweave-style incense holder and covers. See two rare and similar examples dated to the Ming dynasty, 16th-17th century in the collection of the Tokugawa Art Museum, Nagoya, illustrated in Karamono. Imported Lacquerwork. Chinese, Korean, and Ryukyuan, Nagoya, 1997, pp.66 and 136, nos.121 and 122.
