The present pair of plaques relates very closely to a smaller set of four plaques painted in a very similar style and mounted within identical frames and metal mounts sold at Christie’s New York,13-14 September 2012,lot 1578. The plaques sold in New York bore seals reading Meishu Taohua Xuexiao.
One of the scenes depicted is that of Zhong Kui,the demon queller,accompanying his sister to her wedding. The other may represent the story of Lü Dongbin and White Peony.
