The simple form of this box belies a high degree of skill and craftsmanship in creating a box of this form. The hinged cover is carved to fit perfectly with the recessed ledge on the body. A similar burlwood example of this form is illustrated by R.H. Ellsworth，Chinese Furniture：The Hung Collection，Hong Kong，2005，vol. 1，pp. 214-215. Another huanghuali example from the Grace Wu Bruce Collection，without the hardware found on the present example，was sold at China Guardian，Beijing，Sublime and Divine-Chinese Ming Furniture from the Grace Wu Bruce Collection，17 May 2014，lot 4403.
