A LARGE SANDSTONE FIGURE OF A LUOHAN(Jin/Yuan Dynasty,13th/14th Century)

Provenance:
Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1980s

The emaciated figure carved standing on a circular lotus base,his head leaning to the right with hands clasped at the chest before him,his serene face carved with downcast eyes and prominent cheekbones,clad in loose robes falling in folds around his feet.
Comapre with a similarly carved white stone figure of a sleeping luohan,dated to the Song-Jin Dynasty,sold at Christie’s New York,17/18th September 2015, lot 2123.
