The sword has a sharp slender blade with a median ridge. Both sides of the thick guard are decorated with stylized animal masks in relief but there seems to be no evidence of turquoise inlay in the recesses. The cylindrical handle is cast with two raised encircling bands that are decorated with cloud scrolls and a disc-like pommel that is decorated with eight concentric circles. Except for some green encrustations on the guard and elsewhere, the piece is in perfect condition.
The concentric circles on the pommel, the rhombuses on the blade and the bimetallic blade represent advanced casting technologies unique to the states of Wu and Yue to the envy of all others in China Proper during the Spring and Autumn as well as the Warring States periods.
