106cm×52cm×44cm (41 3/4×20 1/2×17 3/8 in)
Made of huanghuali wood in fluid curves, the shaped top rail of rounded section above the elegantly S-shaped splat with fine attractive grain, the top rail continuing to slender stiles which continue to form the rear legs below the rectangular frame with a soft mat seat, the edge of the seat frame moulding downward and inward to end in a narrow flat band, above plain aprons and spandrels on the front and sides, all supported on legs of rounded-square section joined by stepped stretchers and the footrest above a plain, shaped apron, the mortise and tenon joints reinforced by metal mounts.
Yoke-back armchair without protruding ends at the top rail and armrests is called ‘southern official armchair’ by artisans in Beijing. Though it has been restored before, the current one still deserves a place in the book for its plain design of Ming furniture.
