20.78 CARAT NATURAL UNTREATED CAT’S-EYE CHRYSOBERYL AND DIAMOND RING


Centring on an oval cabochon cat’s-eye chrysoberyl weighing 20.78 carats, embellished with oval and brilliant-cut diamonds totalling approximately 4.20 carats, mounted in platinum. Ring size: 6

GRS numbered GRS2013-031552, 4 March 2013, stating the cat’s-eye chrysoberyl is 20.78 carats, natural, greenish-yellow colour, no indication of treatments.

The chrysoberyl species was first discovered in 1789 by renowned geologist, Abraham Gottlob Werner. This rare gemstone is mostly sourced from Sri Lanka but many of those are irregular and unsymmetrical for jewellery making in such a way that having gemstone quality deposits of cat’s eye are even rarer.
Cat’s-eye Chrysoberyl, a stone with chatoyant effect that sweeps like a straight line across the surface, the presence of microscopic needle-like inclusions of rutile or hollow tubes produces a chatoyant effect visible as a single ray of light across the surface. The gemstone must be juxtaposed to display its best advantage in a form of cabochon. Although there is other gemstones display chatoyancy, cat’s-eye chrysoberyl is the only chatoyant mineral earns its name. The chatoyant band is distinct, straight and silver-white colour, extending from girdle to girdle and the body colour of a gem-quality cat’s-eye possess a semi-translucent golden yellow to slightly greenish yellow colour.
