The Truth Beyond Reality
Chen Yiming is a realist artist who possesses excellent painting techniques. In his artistic practice, the content of a painting often transcends reality itself, and his Sea Gulf series is a typical example. Chen depicts plain and simple fishermen, the vast and pure beaches, the delicate sunshine, and turquoise sea water using his realistic techniques and keen pleinairistic sense to bring viewers into the scene and let them feel its reality and romance.
Fujian Sea II is the masterpiece of Chen Yiming's Sea Gulf series. The picture depicts a moment of fishermen's daily life with solid, energetic brushstrokes. The two boats are temporarily moored with the sea behind them as if “gazing” upon the fisherman walking away. The tumbled seawater and the surging clouds in the sky give off a sense of visual pressure. The vastness of the sea and the sky is highlighted by various shades of blue, showing the blending and opposition of natural forces and human activities. The vivid bay in the picture is more than just a reproduction of objective scenery； it is the artist's mindscape that he has revealed in a most natural way.
