A Yellow Jade 'Dog' Carving(Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279))

7.9 cm. (3.1 in.) wide


In a recumbent position with its head resting on its outstretched front paws and turned slightly to the left, its hind legs tucked neatly to one side beneath its body and its tail swept left alongside its left haunch, the emancipated and slim body clearly delineating its protruding spine and ribs, the underside of the dog with well carved details of its paws, the even Yellow stone with areas of Russet skin inclusions.

Provenance: An American private collection, acquired in the 1980s
