A Noble Heart
Ouyang Chun was born in the 1970s and obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. His style of creation escaped the realm of stereotypical academia and instead went the way of visual imagery reminiscent of naïve art, formed using wild brushstrokes and heavy oil paint. The artist incorporates his personal life experience into his works, which are full of primitive enchantment and naïve delights.
Golden Heart was painted in 2007. It depicts a glowing red heart with a similarly red background. The rough texture symbolizes the way people harden after encountering adversity. The gold color filling the heart is a metaphor for eternal existence. It is a continuation of the use of gold in Ouyang’s King series, also created during this period, and it is also reminiscent of works by Gustav Klimt. The golden glow emitted by the heart gives the work a solemn atmosphere, transforming the “inner heart” into an image and showing the power of a noble heart in a more expressionist way.
