ART OF MYSTERY
In 1929, Jacques-Albert Algier, a Parisian craftsman invented 'Mystery Setting', which brought new inspiration into the jewelry industry. This technique was further developed and patented by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1933. Mystery Setting allows gems to be closely set alongside each other without showing any prongs or visible metal. The beauty and precision required for this mystery setting emphasize on the streamlining surface of numerous diamonds or gemstones and broaden the realm of jewellery design.
From the strict selection of gemstones' colour, to the engraving of metal mesh and the completion of the Mystery Setting, the time and precision required are extensive. Only few craftsmen can master this professional technique which makes it even more extravagant.
