BRAZILIAN PARAIBA
The specific electrifying colour of Paraiba tourmaline is due to traces of copper and its enchanting neon blue colour are incomparable among gemstones. The alluring Paraiba tourmalines from Brazil are strongly saturated blue to turquoise colours due to its higher content of copper. As the mines in Brazil have been plundered for more than a decade, supply is dwindling and any new finds tend to be small stones; thus it is highly sought after among gem collectors and carries a higher premium than those from Africa. To put their rarity into perspective, there is only one Paraiba tourmaline mined for every 10,000 stones and a good quality Paraiba from Brazil over three carats are even unheard of.
