MAGNIFICIENT 49.06 CARAT NATURAL UNHEATED BURMESE CORNFLOWER BLUE SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND RING


Centring on an antique cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 49.06 carats, surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds and embellished with tapered baguette diamonds totalling approximately 9.85 carats, mounted in 18 karat white gold. Ring size: 6 3/4

Gübelin report numbered 18051135, dated 4 June 2018, stating the sapphire is 49.06 carats, natural, blue colour, Burmese origin, no indication of heating;
GIA report numbered 2294598332, 25 June 2018, stating that the sapphire is 49.06 carats, natural, blue colour, Burmese origin, no indication of heating; along with a letter stating that ' this sapphire exhibits a highly saturated blue colouration, sometimes described as Royal Blue in the trade...The combination of Burmese origin, lack of heat treatment, saturated blue colour and large size makes this a notable sapphire.'
Lotus report numbered 9830-8137, dated 18 June 2018, stating the sapphire is 49.06 carats, natural, blue colour with intense saturation and medium-deep tone, Burmese origin, no indication of enhancement; along with a colour type comment stating that 'the lively blue colour of this gem earns it the Lotus 'Cornflower Blue' distinction';
Lotus special supplement booklet- Gem of Distinction to this report stating 'There are certain gems that epitomize the word 'classic', capturing the essence of the true sapphire blue. The 49.06 carat gem that is the subject of this report is a case in point...it features a classic cornflower blue colour. Neither too dark nor too light, its azure hue shines through in day or night, in any and all lights. A classic gem from a classic locality in a classic colour. For all these reasons, this sapphire easily qualifies as a Lotus Gem of Distinction. It will provide lifetimes of pleasures to its owner and all who are fortunate enough to have it pass through their hands.';
14 GIA reports stating that the 14 diamonds are ranging from 0.75 to 0.50 carats, D colour, VS1 clarity.

WISDOM IS BLUE
The English name of sapphire comes from the Latin word 'sapphirus', meaning colour blue. Sapphire is traditionally referred as 'the jewel from heaven'.
Blue has always been loved and coveted. Sapphive has the colour of the sky and the sea, often closely connects to space, freedom, imagination, and inspiration. Blue also demonstrates good virtues such as trust, loyalty, wisdom and faith.
In mythology, Prometheus, the rival of Zeus was first to wear sapphire. The ancient Persians believed sapphires were a chip from the pedestal that supported the earth and its reflections bestow the sky its harmonious colour. The ancient Sinhalese believed that the powers of wisdom were embodied within sapphires and that the wearer would find solutions to triumph challenging obstacles. In India, it was believed that immersing a sapphire in water could create an elixir that could cure a snake bite. It could also offer protection against evil spirits if it were worn as a talisman pendant.

SAPPHIRES FROM BURMA
– a treasure in rare supply
Mines in Burma (Myanmar) have been producing sapphires for over 1,000 years. Burmese sapphire received worldwide acclaims and increasingly demanded because of its unsurpassed qualities of colour saturation and quality. Burma has several locations that produce sapphires but the most famous is the Mogok Stone Tract which has a long history of mining dating back several hundred years ago. Current mining is severely limited, making sapphires from Burma very rare.
The formation of sapphire can take up to a million years and required a combination of events and conditions. It was not until the Indian and Asian subcontinents collided 4 to 5 million years ago that gemstones started to form but all necessary elements had to be in proximity and concurrence. Becausc of this very nature, extremely fine gemstones have always been rare.

Burmese sapphires contain network of tiny silk-like inclusions, which scatter and reflect light from within, giving unique luminosity to Burmese sapphires and intensifying their beauty.
