An archaic jade buffalo(Shang Dynasty (16th-11th Century BC))

5.5 cm.( 2 1/8 in ) long


Of tubular form and well-hollowed through and through on both ends, one side cleverly fashioned to resemble a mouth of a buffalo, the animal with pronounced horns, eyes and flared nostrils, laying recumbent at rest with all four feet tucked in, the yellowish-green stone with beige inclusions and reddish-brown residues.

An American private collection, acquired in the 1980s
