GIA report numbered 2193436915, dated 14 June 2018, stating that the diamond is 10.08 carats, D colour, Internally Flawless clarity, with excellent Polish and Symmetry; along with a diamond type classification report stating that ‘the 10.08 carat marquise shaped diamond described...has been determined to be a type IIa diamond. Type IIa diamonds are the most chemically pure type of diamond and often have exceptional optical transparencty. Type IIa diamonds were first identified as originating from India (particularly from the Golconda region) but have since been recovered in all major diamond-producing regions of the world. Among famous gem diamonds, the 530.20 carat Cullinan I and the 105.60 carat Koh-i-noor are examples of type IIa.’
The world's most famous colourless diamonds with superb optical properties are classified as Type IIa. Among the famous diamonds, the 530.20 carat Cullinan I and the 105.60 carat Koh-i-noor are examples of type IIa which also have a famous historic connection with Golconda diamonds mined from the historic Kingdom of Golconda in India.
Scientists classify diamonds into two main 'types' – type I and type II. Type IIa diamonds tend to have few inclusions which allow the most light to pass through the stone, making them more valuable. The total production only making up to 1–2% of all natural gem quality diamonds produced and are rarely encountered in the gem trade nowadays.
