Mechanical Installations with Warmth
Go Spinning, Sea Lion!
Liang Jen Hung was born in 1957 in Tainan. His electromechanical installation work The Ritual of Being Existent won both the Taipei Arts Award and Kaohsiung Awards in 2011, an achievement that no one else can top. This award-wining piece is also held in collection at Kaohsiung Museum Fine Arts.
After finishing postgraduate studies in 2002, Liang embarked on an artistic career devoted to interactive installations made of stainless steel, copper and mechanical bearings, which are media through which he conveys his reflections on the state of life.
Since 2018, Liang has been working on the series of Transevolution, which features the sleek surface of stainless steel and the contour with swooping lines. The piece is a breakaway from the hands-off tradition of art appreciation. A slightly touch on the body can trigger a temperate spin. Transevolution18AN1027 takes the shape of a sea lion with long limbs, a curly tail and upright body posture. With his round head in glossy metal, he will mirror the surroundings in 360 degrees as visitors make it spin by touching his upturned ears or face. His adorable body profile also shows the beauty of curves. Liang used futuristic materials to present the animal, who greets everyone reaching out a hand with a dance, offering memorable experience to the viewers.
