The Reappearance of an Innocent Mind in Childhood
Lo Chiao-Ling's Healing Doll

Born in 1981 in Taipei, Lo Chiao-Ling has been devoted herself to art since her graduation from Taipei National University of the Arts. Derived from her childhood memories and experiences, the child-like protagonists in Lo Chiao-Ling's art speak their mind fearlessly. These pure and sincere images of children are depicted with delightful gestures. Lo Chiao-Ling's works have been exhibited in Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and France. Her art is also collected by National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

Lo Chiao-Ling's Finger Puppets presented this time depicts a girl with brown short hair looking into the audience in innocence. With her reddish nose, lips and the red cheeks, she looks shy and adorable. Her hands are widely open, with different finger puppets on her fingers, such as a smiling girl and a plump hairy dog. It is as if the girl is indulged in a self-directed play, enjoying the pleasure in a fairy tale. Lo Chiao-Ling delicately overlaps several light layers of paints, and portrays the girls' innocent face with graffiti-like brushstrokes. Without erasing the outline of her face prepared on the stage of drafting, Lo Chiao-Ling puts the focus on her rosy cheeks. By applying each layer of paints carefully and mastering the move of brushstrokes, Lo paints a glowing babyish face. The girl's face takes up almost the whole canvas, drawing viewer's attention on her face. Viewers may be reminded of their lonely days at a young age when looking into her eyes. Behind her face is the soft green background. The color of Granny Smith apples, arousing a bittersweet feeling, indicates the girl's innocent mind vividly.
