The Ever-growing Flow of Beauty
The Kinetic Sculptures of Liang Jen-Hung

Liang Jen-Hung received his master's degree in 2002 at the Institute of Plastic Arts in Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA) and became a professional artist ever since. His art work is usually presented as kinetic sculptures made of steel or bronze, together with mechanical bearings, revealing his unique understanding of the status of both life and the world by visual languages that are humorous and amiable. In the Autumn Auction in 2020, his artwork Transevolution 23AT1033-34 was auctioned at more than $600,000 HKD, three times higher than the appraisal in 2020. This time, what is brought to the view is his representative work, Transevolution 15AK1029.1017, larger than the previous one. This work of art delivers the subtle flow of beauty within the delicate boundary between steadiness and movement.

The Creation of New Species

In his studio in Tainan, Liang has been living harmoniously with his companion, Niuniu the dog for a long time. The almost-20-year-old friend, staying by his side day and night, has been an inseparable part of his life. Transevolution 15AK1029.1017 gains its inspiration from exactly this furry friend. The artist uses the material of steel to present the bodyline of the sculpture, capturing the moment when Niuniu is right about to get up and run for the attention of her owner. The flow of its tail resembles two “trigs” that are growing from two tiny globes. Adding elements of botany to the body of an animal, Liang creatively combines the two components into a dynamic one. The creation of new species roots in the endless power of imagination possessed by the artist.

The Combination of Strength and Beauty

The more both sides of the sculpture get pushed, the more splendidly it can spin, reflecting the multi-dimensional surroundings of where it sits. This work of art shatters the stereotypical view of the audience that touching an artwork is discouraged. Instead, by encouraging the audience to interact with it, it brings about a close bond between the art and those who embrace it, inviting the sense of participation. The delicate free-flow of the steel material handles enormous strength with a light touch. The brilliant idea of using mechanical kinetics to present the concept of aesthetics makes this work of art a perfect combination of strength and beauty.

The Faith to the Encounter, the Reflection of Life Those cannot be Forgotten Will be Remembered

Liang has always been using his art to express how he understands the relationship among nature, mechanics and humans, emphasizing the accidentally of occasions and their development. As shown in Transevolution 15AK1029.1017, just like every push resulting in a different angle of reflection and a new perspective of appreciation, the artwork uses its own way to tell the wisdom of life. We don't need obsession to the concept of self. Every encounter, after the “push”, will generate a chain of effect and reflect the reincarnation of time and life.
