The Moving Feast: Alixe Fu's Transitional Work Owl

Alixe Fu's creative process is divided into different stages based on his own life journey: his religious Scarecrow Cross series from 1991 to 1993, his Birth (1994-1997) series that is prompted by the birth of his child, which depicts his joy and excitement of being a new father and completes his observation of and transformation from divinity to humanity. Owl (1993) was created during this period of transformation and was the first piece in his Birth series.
Owl is divided into two parts in blue and red, which symbolizes ideal and sensibility respectively. In the upper part, an agile owl and two faces are presented; in the lower part, one person lies flat on top of the wings of the owl, presenting a private perspective. The fragmented group portrait is flattened and elongated by the artist's deliberate deformation, looking like overlapping images, adding a touch of suspense and mystery to the piece. The artist intends to use the title Owl to emphasize the confrontation between the rational and the perceptual, to capture human emotional expression and to highlight the spiritual high ground beneath the surface of restraint of modern people.
