The Dualism of Yin and Yang with Aura

“In his Taichi Series, this conflict of forces is explicit, in the dualism of the figures who thrust and retreat, give and take, in a dynamic relationship with one each other. An invisible electric current seems to flow between them.”
——British art historian Michael Sullivan

The figures are extremely abstract and concise in Taichi Series – Boxing. The artist pays little attention to the details and only focuses on the most “condensed” body to present the characters' moves. We can feel that the artist's mature thinking and calmness when he creates the sculpture. One figure leans back, and his standing leg shows a strong and steady posture, kicking out in the air with the other leg with extraordinary vigour and bringing out the momentum in one go; the other man has his hands folded up and down, forming a yunshou move and controlling the breath and strength. The boxing is a set of contrasts between the characters deliberately created by the artist, one advancing and one retreating, one slow and one urgent, one rigid and one soft, one offensive and one defensive, forming the most powerful echoing relationship. It shows the movement and the static follow each other, and the flowing vibe of reality and virtuality.
