97.5×62.5×30 cm (38 3/8×24 5/8×11 3/4 in)
The rectangular frame with grooved outer edge is set upon a low waist and a cusped curvilinear apron carved with two chilong confronting the tendrils of symmetrical vegetal scrolls. The squared cabriole legs ending in tapered scrolls.
The legs lock into vertical position with side tenons, they are released when pulled outwards slightly, and can be folded back in half along a single hinged tenon to lie flat against the underside of the top. Such folding mechanisms are very rare, and were devised to allow flat packing for easy transportation, particularly given the multiplicity of function and setting for Chinese furniture, as discussed earlier.
Two examples were included in the exhibition 'Splendor of Style: Classical Furniture from the Ming and Qing Dynasties' at the National Museum of His- tory, Taipei, June 26-September 5, 1999, pp. 116-117.
