HUANGHUALI WAISTED DAYBED

202×108×50 cm (79 1/2×42 1/2×19 5/8 in)

Soft matting is enclosed by the rectangular frame with exposed tenons on the shorter sides and a grooved and curved outer edge just above the low waist. They are on a curvilinear apron with three barbed notches and a molded or beaded edge securing squared cabriole legs that curve out to flared hoofs supported on compressed balls or bun feet.
This daybed is a fine example of the portability of classical Chinese furniture since it could also have served as a large seat both in- and out-of-doors. In proportion, the daybed is similar to the much smaller kang table, and indeed the bun feet resemble those on the latter. The smaller studs of the table served as stabilizers to prevent them from sinking too far into the padded cushions of the kang.
