Solo Dance on the Hill
Camilla Engstrom's Colourful Fairy Tale

“I do try to mix in joy and humour into my work. To further describe it: I paint imaginary landscapes. Right now, I like to paint volcanos, hills, bright suns and blue skies. ”
——Camilla Engstrom

When it comes to young artists who are currently in demand in the Asian primary market, Camilla Engstrom is a name that cannot be ignored. Born in Sweden in 1989, she graduated from Parsons School of the Arts in New York with a degree in Fashion Design and worked as a designer for Calvin Klein and J Crew. Since 2016, she has been a full-time artist and has held solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Stockholm. Her works are always sold out before the exhibition. They are created based on her female perspective -- feminine elements are incorporated into her abstract landscapes. Day and Night in March is presented in this auction, which is one of her classic abstract landscape paintings.

In Day and Night in March, the artist boldly divides the painting into two sections: the sky and the mountains. The left half depicts the sun shining warmly on the earth, while the right half hangs a bright, curved moon radiating white light. The artist not only reflects the different days and nights through the warm and cold tones but also describes the changing of the seasons and the passing of time.

At the bottom of the picture is Camilla's most classic landscape vocabulary - the gentle and soft lines of the rolling hills, inspired by the basic skills of fashion design that she learned when she was a student: she transformed the texture, density and texture of fabrics in garments into the layers of hills in a landscape painting. Under her brush, the bountiful hills have nurtured mankind and reflected the diverse landscapes of the human world. It is the best depiction of the artist's broad-mindedness.

Another well-known characteristic of Camilla Engstrom is that she dances alone in front of her paintings - she has never been trained in dance, but she moves casually in front of the work she is about to finish and edits it into a short video for Instagram. The painting in front of her also represents a solo dance of the decades that belongs to females.
