Classic Expression through Writing, Conveying Emotions that Endure
Pang Maokun's Classic Portrait Painting Late Autumn Debuts at the Auction

Pang Maokun, who graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1988, has always been dedicated to exploring the expression and presentation of classical oil painting language in contemporary cultural contexts. He integrates his personal artistic creation into social reality and is committed to constructing the Chinese oil painting art system. As the current dean of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, he has held large solo exhibitions at institutions such as the National Art Museum of China, Shanghai Art Museum, Beijing Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai Long Art Museum, Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts in Taipei, and the Riccardi Medici Palace in Italy, and his works are beloved by collectors at home and abroad. This autumn auction presents the artist's classic portrait work Late Autumn, completed in 2002, which has its debut in this autumn sale.

Full of Affection, Gentle and Moving

In the indoor space with grey cement walls, a beautiful Oriental young girl lies horizontally on a blue sofa. She leans against the pillow with a comfortable and lazy posture. Her hair is tied up, and her rosy cheeks and red lips show delicate features. One hand is hidden behind her, while the other hand is relaxed and hanging on the edge of the sofa, pointing towards the ground. The artist carefully depicts the white knitted long shirt she is wearing, the texture of the black pants, and the red square cushion beneath her contrasts with the red corner of the door on the left side of the painting, forming a perfect harmony in colour and lines. The main body of the blue sofa and the red cushion and door create a subtle balance between the cold and warm colour domains, enriching the viewer's visual experience. Behind the girl, a half-hanging portrait is displayed above the sofa, revealing the owner's elegant taste.

Transmitting Eastern Sentiment with Western Techniques

The artist embodies the essence of realism in this painting, whether it's the girl's lively and crystal-clear eyes, the intricate patterns of the cuff, or the natural depressions and wrinkles of the sofa, everything is meticulously articulated. Pang Maokun deeply explores the language characteristics of Western classical painting, using strong realism to shape an Eastern narrative. The work not only possesses the solemnity and elegance of Western portrait painting but also contains the implicit Eastern sentiment.
