13.7 cm. high
The Silvered Bronze Cup with Animal Pattern datable to the Han dynasty. The tall and deep cup has a slightly evert mouth and tapers downwards to rest on a flared ring foot. Standing out prominently on the body are motifs of auspicious humanlike figures with four limbs,a narrow waist and horns that end in a coil. Either looking down and howling or dancing with the forelimbs in the air,the beasts are linked by their tails which extend in a geometric network. By virtue of the silvering technique that is applied to the bronze, the cup has become polychromatic with a sense of depth and an added visual appeal, glinting as always despite the passage of centuries.
