N atural Pearls
Nature pearl is organically formed without any human intervention. Its formation originates from a foreign object lodges in the mollusk of shells of marine species on the seafloor or riverbeds provided with stable climatic conditions. The mollusk secretes multi-layers of nacre, giving the pearl their unusual beauty.
Legend has it that Venus, the God of love of Rome, was born in a shell. When the shell was opened, the water droplets on her body would be transformed into a flawless glistening pearl; thus symbolizing innocence and purity. During 1600s, the royalties, aristocrats and literati adorned themselves lavishly with natural pearls, which became the symbol of wealth, status and taste in an age of splendor. To be offered in this auction is a pair of natural salt-water pearl, conch pearl and diamond pendent earrings, reminiscing the splendor of that era.
