Padparadscha
Padparadscha is an extremely rare variety of Sapphire. To be named a Padparadscha, the gem should exhibit both pink and orange colours. Derived from the Sinhalese word for lotus colour (“padma raga”), padparadscha is the symbol of peace and pure.
Padparadscha sapphire was first found in Sri Lanka hundreds of years ago. Although similar coloured sapphires have been found recently in Vietnam, Tanzania and Madagascar, some experts insist that true padparadschas can come only from Sri Lanka.
Padparadscha is an aluminum oxide mineral that forms in crystals, the unique pinkish-orange sapphire is treasured by gemstone connoisseurs. On January 2018, Princess Eugenie, the daughter of the Duke (Prince Andrew) and Duchess (Sarah Ferguson) of York, announced her engagement with a dazzling padparadscha ring.
