A BRONZE RITUAL FOOD VESSEL AND COVER,GUI(Western Zhou Dynasty(1100-771 BC))

Provenance:
Acquired in Hong Kong in the 1980s

Raised on four taotie mask feet,the broad body and domed cover cast with broad horizontal ribs interrupted on either side by ‘D’-shaped mythical beast handles.
Compare with a closely related example in the Sackler Collections,illustrated by J. Rawson,Western Zhou Ritual Bronzes from the Arthur M. Sackler Collection,Vol. II,Massachusetts,1990,pl. 57. Another inscribed example,from the collection of Horatio Seymour was sold at Sotheby’s London,9th November 2011,lot 386.
The dating of this lot is consistent with technical examination report no.
0717-OA-45N-6 carried out by CIRAM.
