Finely modelled seated on a waisted stool,her right hand held up in front of her delicately holding a flower,her left hand placed on her leg,her robes falling in folds around her upturned shoes.
The present figure belongs to a small group of particularly finely modelled seated figures in the same pose,holding either a flower or a bird. The closest related example in this group appears to be a very similarly modelled figure in the Matsuoka Art Museum,Tokyo,illustrated in Mayuyama Seventy Years,vol. 1, Tokyo,1976,pl. 191. Another figure from the T.T. Tsui Collection is illustrated in Art Treasures from Shanghai and Hong Kong,Hong Kong,1996,no. 26;a figure illustrated in The Charles B. Hoyt Collection in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston,Boston, 1964,pl. 87;a figure in the collections of Captain S.N. Ferris Luboshez,C.C. Wang Family Collection,Irene and Earl Morse and A. Alfred Taubman,sold at Sotheby’s New York,16 March 2016,lot 272;and another example in the Guimet Museum Collection illustrated by A. Hougron,La Ceramique chinoise ancienne,Paris,2015, p. 36.
The dating of this lot is consistent with the result of a thermoluminescence text,Oxford Authentication Ltd., sample no. C101p1.
