Supported by a square ring foot, this wine vessel has a rectangular mouth, wide flat rim, short neck and square bulging belly. On either side of the belly is a mask-and-ring handle. A three-character inscription reading “xin cheng hou” in fine strokes can be faintly made out in the middle on the front of the belly. The otherwise undecorated jar was gilded and must have glittered like gold. Except for the rim and the ringed masks, most of the gilt has worn off.
